Sang Watts, after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer, entered the kingdom of heaven on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021. Our beloved Sang died in her home; she was 67 years old. Sang fought pancreatic cancer with strength, positivity, grace and most importantly with a smile. Sang’s journey became a source of inspiration for others to hold onto hope and to always find the light within the darkness. 

Sang had this extremely warm energy about her. Everyone who knew her and even those who did not directly know her, commented on the light she brought into this world. Sang could be compared to a local celebrity, almost everywhere she went, there was always someone filled with joy to see her. Sang will be remembered for her smile that could light up a room, her laugh, her positivity, her loving, caring personality, and her perseverance. Sang loved being by the water and being outside, exercising, going for morning walks, shopping at Kohls, TJ Maxx, and Target, practicing yoga and meditation, doing sudoku puzzles, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sang was born on February 7, 1954 in Oxford, Mississippi. She met her husband, Michael Watts, while he was attending Ole Miss University and they later married on December 22, 1978 in her home town of Oxford. Michael's journey in the Navy led them to settle in Boston, where together they raised two loving children, Dion and Ivy. Sang was a Teacher’s Aid for Pre-School in the Waltham Public School System for 15 years. She continued working during the pandemic and was working on starting her retirement in June of this year. Sang worked with hundreds of students, many of whom remember her for her kindness and positivity. 

Sang was the type of person who could start a chant of “Sang Strong” at the Pancreatic Cancer Purple Stride Walk, and have strangers join in, which led her to creating lifelong friends. Sang was the type of person who walked the halls of the hospital the day after an incredibly tough Whipple surgery and became admired by all, being called a “dream patient”. She was the type of person who always told it to you straight, but told it to you with love and a smile. She was the type of person who loved hard, showed up for those around her, and poured herself into everything she did. She provided compassion beyond words to her family, friends and students she worked with, always knowing the right words to say.

Sang lived a life to be admired. After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2019, she didn’t let it get her down, instead she decided to fight. Sang fought an incredibly tough battle of chemo, surgeries and hospital stays and yet she always stayed positive and strong. She was the epitome of pushing through tough times with grace. Sang would want us all to celebrate her life, to continue on with her positivity and her smile in all that we do and to remember all of the good times, laughs and many hugs we all shared with her. She would want us to be comforted in knowing that she is finally at peace, and with her Heavenly Father, as well as loved ones who have passed before her. Sang’s spirit, warmth, energy and love will be with all of us forever and will forever remain in our hearts - just keep looking out for purple in your life. She is everywhere.

Sang is survived by her husband, Michael and their children, Dion Watts and Ivy Watts-Calixte, her son-in law, David Calixte, her siblings Jimmy Brown (Lois Ann), Shirley Gipson (Glen), Paula Brown, Sarah Brown, and Lois Davis (Eddie); her in-laws Mary Watts (Noel), Patricia Watts-Gordon (Charles), Thelma Watts, Robert Watts (Karen), and Jim Watts (Toni); she is also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless, countless friends who all adored her.
